The Role

As the IT Director you will:

  • Be responsible for leading a team of app and backend developers in the design, development, and maintenance of mobile applications and backend systems.
  • Be responsible for the full software development life cycle, working closely with project managers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and ensure that the team delivers high-quality software on time and within budget.
  • Be working with a global team to cut through the noise and shape an attractive brand online.
  • Be reporting to the Head of Technology.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Overseeing technology operations and evaluating established goals/timelines.
  • Ensure delivery and operations of our solutions
  • Lead a team of software developers in the design, development, and maintenance of mobile applications and backend systems
  • Planning and documenting technical specifications for features or system design.
  • Work closely with product owner, project managers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements.
  • Developing standards and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met and consistent.
  • Manage team performance and provide mentorship and guidance to team members.
  • Ensure that the team adheres to best practices in software development, including coding standards and testing procedures.
  • Ensure that the app and backend systems are scalable, maintainable, and secure.
  • Participate in the design and architecture of software systems.
  • Discover and implement new technologies that yield a competitive advantage.
  • Receive, process, and document feedback from stakeholders and development teams to continuously improve our products.

Technical/Essential Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of software development best practices and methodologies.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with backend development frameworks, such as Node.js, Django, Ruby on Rails, or Express.js is a plus.
  • No problem expressing yourself in professional and technical English in writing and speaking.
  • Strong analytical skills and know how to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Experience with security and compliance-related challenges.
  • Knowledge of working using Agile/Scrum-principles.
  • Recognizes opportunities and initiates actions to capitalize on them. Looks for new and productive ways to make an impact.
  • Excellent understanding of content formats, communication channels and audience engagement in ReMark key global markets.

Personal Competencies

  • Healthy knowledge of news & current affairs especially in the topic of technology, data governance, health & wellness, financial sector, insurance, and consumer behavior.
  • A real openness to the world. The Front Office team is global, you will be curious to explore and have the desire to conceive, develop and implement innovative ideas.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a complex, fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Produces clear, complete, and professional forms of communication in writing that meet the needs of the intended audience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills: Initiative, self-confidence, strong team player.

Required Education/Work Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on mobile and web app development as well as backend development.
  • 3+ years of experience leading software development teams.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Experience with different programming languages, such as JavaScript, Ruby, Java and Swift.
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies, such as AWS, GCP or Azure is a plus.
  • Excellent understanding of content formats, communication channels and audience engagement in ReMark key global markets.
